This is the west tower of the church – I’ll eventually post a photo that also shows the eastern tower, which may have been used as a beacon. The church is up on a hill and it easily visible from the beach, so it’s likely this tower and/or the eastern tower were used a navigation points when the town was a very active seaport from medieval times up to the 20th century.
