Sunday Short Takes

* 525th anniversary of the Battle of Bosworth event staged on ‘wrong site’ – Be sure to check out the photos of the battle re-enactment

* From the Vaults: ‘Anna Boleyn’ (1920) – A movie blogger’s entertaining review of a 90-year-old Tudor film

* Primary sources related to Elizabeth I, From the Elizabeth Files. This is the type of list that I’ve been wanting to put together but, as with so many things, it’s still on the ‘to do’ list.

  1. I assumed the cinematic tradition of Henry VIII as lecherous lout originated with Charles Laughton in “The Private Life of Henry VIII.” But it looks like the Germans got there first!

  2. Yep, I pretty much had the same thought!

  3. My library has a copy of the Anna film…and I checked it out! What a hoot!!! The costumes and sets are tremendous, however, so this movie was not inexpensive to make.

As is so often the case, the history was tangled with, but that didn’t take away a thing. As the journalist said…we all know the history line. So, appreciate the fact that in the 1920’s, Anne and Henry’s story was just as fascinating as it is today and if you have the opportunity, take the time to watch this version of a great love/hate relationship. You’ll find yourself grinning and enjoying this 90 year old film of Elizabeth I’s parents.

    *****…oh yeah…definitely FIVE stars!!
