Picture of the Week #43

Wax figure of Anne of Cleves at Madame Tussauds London. Photo May 1998.

I think this is my favorite of the group. 🙂

  1. Oh I agree–she looks really lovely, so peaceful…

  2. Yes, lovely. I thought she was supposed to be a dog.

  3. If Holbein’s painting is any indication, she was probably the most attractive of the wives (at least to modern eyes).

  4. She seems pretty to me, after all I’ve read. Is it true that the reason Henry VIII hated her and said she stunk, and all that stuff, was because he truly did disguise himself with his men and went up to her at a bear baiting before she ever met him, and kissed her with his web slobbery mouth, bad breath from his rotting teeth, and him thinking he was still sexy and that all women loved him? She apparently pushed back from him, wiped her mouth with the back of her hand, and turned her head and spat out the taste of him! He was mortified and they say he may have realized that he was no longer the handsome young man who could have any woman he wanted. But is this story true?
