US Publication of “Wolf Hall”

I posted about Hilary Mantel’s novel on Thomas Cromwell Wolf Hall back in May and today I got an email from the US publisher with the US release date of October 13. Some of you have probably also seen that the book is on the short list for The Man Booker Prize, which will be announced Oct. 6.

Here are the pre-order links again, for anyone who is interested:

  1. Has anyone read this yet? Would be interested to hear what you thought about it.

  2. All I can offer is a few remembered comment made on this site a few months ago.

The reader said that he/she had to constantly refer to the list of characters at the front of the book. There are so many folks involved in Cromwell’s story that it was difficult to keep everybody straight.

The novel also ends with the execution of Anne Boleyn…which definitely sets up Cromwell’s story for a sequel.

I would like to read this novel but like you, KB…I’d like a bit more information from other people.

  3. Foose made a comment about it in the thread back in May:

I heard the author read a little from it on a British Library podcast earlier this year and I found myself pretty sucked in to the story in just those few bits. I have a review copy on the way and I *might* actually have time to read it sometime this year. 🙂

I asked the publisher rep if there were any plans for an audiobook, but I haven’t heard back yet. I like to listen to fiction in audio format, although it can be sometimes difficult in long books with lots of characters (for example, the George R. R. Martin books and Ken Follett’s cathedral books).

  4. thanks for the link. I thought I remembered someone commenting on this before but it slipped my ever porous memory….
