Countess Elizabeth Bathory

I’m not sure what started it, but I’ve noticed an uptick in the interest of this legendary Hungarian countess, who was a contemporary of Elizabeth I.

I received a note from the author of this new book on the countess, with US Amazon link below.

  1. A few years back another author published a biography of this lady. I believe the title was “The Blood Countess”. I read it, and she certainly lead a VERY gory life. Young women disappearing all over the place, and all leading towards this woman.

I won’t spoil anything here, in case other folks are interested, but if there was ever truth to that maxim “Absolute power corrupts absolutely”, that statement was definitely written for this countess.

  2. A Different Lara

What’s worse, is she had “aristocratic immunity.”

She was a nasty piece of work, that one. Very cringe-worthy.

  3. Hi Lara, I think there is so much interest in Bathory because vampires are in vogue again. I did a lot of research on her the past year and I personally don’t believe the whole bathing in blood rumor or the number of women she killed. But I would be interested to hear what others think?

  4. There is also a Czech film that has been released called “Bathory” starring Hans Matheson (Virgin Queen, The Tudors) that was released earlier this summer in the Czech Republic. I have no idea when it’ll come to the States but the trailer looks visually stunning!

  5. You must always bear in mind with Elizabeth Bathory that the only “evidence” we have comes from vested interests. Who stood to gain by her demise? Who owed her more than his worth?

I think that the woman was just had mind problems, I know that someone like that would never do something so, so, harsh or crule to young girls. Would they?

If someone would really belive that blood from someone who is younger than you will give you the same youth of that person, they are abouslotely wrong! I did reaserch on this crule woman and there is a 75% chance that she did have mind problems. So i think that it’s only best if we forget the past and look forward to the future. Also, The “Blood Countness” was proublely got a little co co in the head a little while. But why do you think she did the thinkgs she did?
