Emmy nominations announced

“The Tudors” picked up two nominations this time, for Best Casting and Best Costumes for a series. I’m kind of surprised that they didn’t get a few more since I thought the second season (in particular the finale) was stronger than the first. Oh well!

Here’s the full list from The Emmys

  1. Could this be a commentary on how historically inaccurate the series was?

There were subtilties and nuances, but a great deal of the program was right out there…not to mention the passion scenes. My comment can only be based on the first season because this second has yet to be enjoyed. However, I have seen clips on YouTube, and was impressed with what was seen of the finale. The DVD will be purchased once it is available.

It should also be clarified that none of the nominated drama programs have been watched, so I really have nothing upon which to base my opinions. In other words…I have no idea on how accurate those programs are in revealing true law or hospital situations.

Although as out-of-wack to history as the personal relationships, it was nice to see an Emmy nod to the costuming. They were beautiful pieces, and I could enjoy them albeit realizing they were ‘fantasy’ outfits. For me, the costumes were close enough to what was actually worn, with a bit of modern splash.

  2. I don’t find it difficult to enjoy “The Tudors” despite the historical inaccuracies. I can spot the deviations from historical fact and yet not be bogged down by them.

I agree on the season two finale — I found it absolutely mesmerizing and very, very well done. The climactic images of the birds in flight followed by Anne’s glassy-eyed, almost peaceful “stare” are still lingering in my brain!

Out of all the cast, Natalie Dormer most deserved a nomination for her work in the second season, especially the second half and the finale.

  3. I just remembered that the way the Emmys work is that series pick and episode (maybe more) to submit and that nominations aren’t made for the whole season. From the costume nominations, it looks like it was the second ep. of the second season that was submitted. Too bad they didn’t use a later episode since I think the build up of the drama through the season was done pretty well.

  4. Ooop, that should be “an episode” up there… haven’t had enough coffee this morning. (And I’m drinking it from my “disappearing wives of Henry VIII” mug from the Folger Shakespeare Library!)

  5. I have that same mug! I love it in spite of and perhaps because of the fact that it’s so kitschy! 🙂
