Very interesting article. It links up well with a lively discussion on this blog in late February 2008, when a questioner asked about Henry’s wives’ last names.
It also raises the question — if Jane Grey had stayed queen, would there have been talk of a Grey dynasty, or Dudley dynasty, or would those surnames also have been pointedly allowed to lapse? Both names summoned up dubious associations — Dudley for obvious reasons, and Grey for the old scandal over “Dame Grey.”
cool website, what was the born surnames of all henry viii’s wives. what was their surnames they were born with?( sorry if their are spelling mistakes still in primary school!)
