Very interesting and well worth watching. Just one gripe – why use a Handel composition from the time of the Hanoverian monarchs to introduce and close a film about the Tudors?
I had a similar thought – especially since they did use some correct period music for part of it… why not all! I guess they were going for drama (and not thinking about people like us). 🙂
I am now going to have to set aside a day to go see this crown when I am in London in January!
Marilyn, I understand your complaint about the choice of music, but I agree with Lara that the motivation was drama, not historical accuracy. I am not aware of any 16th century musical composition that has the words “Long Live the King” set to music.
But I have my own odd gripe. I know HRP has a limited budget, and may face a lot of criticism in these hard economic times for spending “five figures” simply to reproduce a crown. And because of the budget, the gems selected, though real, are of the very lowest quality. The sapphires in particular are virtually opaque and very pale. The real ones would have been a darker blue and somewhat clearer. I would rather they had used good-quality synthetic sapphires and rubies rather than such poor quality real stones … just as they used gilded silver rather than solid gold.
