Norwich Castle. Photo May 2015.

Norwich Castle originally dates from the 11th and 12th centuries and served as a prison for several hundred years, including the Tudor era. The castle was completely refaced in the 19th century but is a faithful recreation of the original. Since the late 19th century is has been the home of the Norwich Museum.

Entrance to Castle Rising Castle, Norfolk. Photo May 2015.

It looks like I haven’t actually used any of my photos from Castle Rising yet, so it was definitely time to add one. My visit there was in some of the worst weather I had on that trip, but that meant I basically had the place to myself! 🙂

The castle dates from the 12th century and in Tudor times it passed to Thomas Howard, Duke of Norfolk and it has stayed in the Howard family ever since.

Note: Mary FitzAlan’s effigy is on this tomb but her body is actually buried elsewhere.

St James the Great Church, Castle Acre, Norfolk. Photo May 2015

There is already a lot of history to see in Castle Acre, but the parish church is definitely worth a visit too! The current building is primarily from the 14th and 15th century with some restoration work in the 19th century.
