  1. I’m a little bit upset that they say they are going to withdraw it from public viewing later this year. Exactly WHEN is it going to be withdrawn. I already have my ticket for London on June 22 and was planning on going to Portsmouth sometime within a week after that for the sole purpose of seeing the Mary Rose.

If anybody knows or hears anything about the withdrawal date, please let me know.

  2. You might shoot them an email and see if they reply. (I’ve only corresponded with their web guy, so unfortunately I can’t refer you to anyone specifically who is likely to know.) I would be surprised if they would close it off and start the new museum during the summer of the big 500 anniversary, but who knows.

  3. Thanks, Lara. I might try that. And you are right. They would shooting themselves in the foot if they close it off at the beginning of summer tourist season, especially this year!

BTW, I know you have been there. Did you go out to Southsea Castle too to see where Henry was standing watching it sink? I’ve read they have some of the artifacts out there. It’s not at all close to the museum (or the train station), so I suspect I will have to take a taxi out there. I don’t suppose they have a water taxi between the museum and the castle? That would be fun if they did!

  4. No, I didn’t go out to Southsea Castle, and I’m not even sure that I knew about it at the time. Although since I was staying with a friend and her aunt and uncle (who lived in Portsmouth), I’m kind of surprised that it didn’t come up. To be honest, we were so busy with various meet-ups and such that I’m not sure when I would have squeezed it in.

I definitely want to go back and see the new museum when it is finished, so I’ll have to add it to my plan for this vague future trip I’m planning in my head!

  5. Well, good news. I emailed the Mary Rose exhibit at the email address on their website and heard absolutely nothing back from them. So I posted on the Portsmouth forum at tripadvisor.com and asked about it. Somebody in England called them for me and they say they do not yet have a definite closure date, it will be around September/October. So, barring any catastrophes, I will get to see the Mary Rose this summer after all.
