Assessing Henry VIII on the 500th anniversary

This is another article that has been sitting in my back-log:

From The Times Online (Times Literary Supplement):

What should we think of Henry VIII? This year we will all have to decide. For the 500th anniversary of his accession, the British Library and the Tower of London will host exhibitions, Channel 4

  1. It might soon be the “Battle of the Henry Bios” 🙂

Eventually one will come out on top, and then that’ll be the one I’ll read, and most likely put on the shelf. “Henry: Virtuous Prince” is a nice one and how great that it was ‘blogged’ on this site. Now someone needs to do Lucy Wooding’s effort…maybe with the idea of comparing it with Starkey’s? Two brand new books on Hal 8…it’ll be interesting to know who did a ‘better’ job putting Henry’s reign under the microscope.

I must re-read Scarisbrick’s effort. Interesting that something from the ‘olden days’ (and here I’m showing my age (sigh) ) is still considered the best bio on Henry.

  2. All these exhibitions makes me want to be in London right now! 🙁
