The Inns of Chancery were sometimes used as prep schools for the Inns of Court where a student would serve as a clerk. Staple and Barnard's were attached to Grey's Inn, Furnival's and Thavie's were attached to Lincoln's Inn, Clifford's and Clement's were attached to Inner Temple and New Inn was attached to Middle Temple.
