A small Protestant sect in south-east England, under the leadership of Henry Harte, during Edward VI's reign. The sect clung to a belief in the importance of freewill in the acquisition of salvation. It supported religious toleration. It was opposed by other Protestant groups, who espoused predestination. The group was persecuted under Mary I and disappeared without trace.
