Podcast on hold for a while

Hello all! Due to the upcoming sale of our house and move (back in to Austin proper - we're out in a rural area near Elgin right now) my weekends are going to be completely eaten up soon. So, I've decided to put the podcast on hiatus for the summer. We're hoping to take a vacation to Maine again this year too, so I'll probably just aim to start back up in September or October. This will also give me a little time to think some more about a few format changes that I've been considering. And this will allow me to finally get on a schedule to put the podcast out at the beginning of a month instead of the end! :)

I apologize to all the folks who have emailed me telling me how much they look forward to the podcast every month since they're going to have a bit of a wait for the next one now! But I'll still be updating the website and news blog as time allows, so you can still get your "Tudor fix".

I had to go and use the word "promise"....

I really hate to break promises, but it looks like I'm going to have to this time. I'm pretty sure the earliest the podcast will get out now is going to be the first weekend of the new year (if I'm lucky). Due to a combination of a dead laptop, a bad cold, a boyfriend recovering from pneumonia and travel, I'm going to have to push the December podcast into January. I had about half of it ready to go but, of course, it is still on the laptop that won't start. I should be able to get that fixed up in the next week or so. But, even if that worked, my voice is in no shape to record at the moment! Hopefully the cough and congestion will pass in the next couple of days and I'll be able to record next weekend.

I hope everyone has a great new year!

Traveling for Christmas

I really, really tried to get the podcast finished by today so I could upload it before I went out of town, but last minute running around and packing has prevented it. I promise the December episode will be up before the month actually ends, but it won't be until the 28th at the earliest.

I'll be on the road most of the day tomorrow and then visiting with friends and family for a while, so updates may be sparse and slow. So, if I don't get a chance to post again until the new year, I just wanted to wish everyone a happy holiday season, no matter what you celebrate this time of year! Here's to a great 2008!

I would like to wish all my fellow Americans a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you had a chance to spend it with family and friends. I would also like to give thanks to all of you who read the site and listen to the podcast!

I just sent off emails to the 5 randomly chosen winners of the give-away for merchandise from "The Tudors" television series, so if you entered, keep an eye on your email!

I'll post the outcome of the survey later today.... some interesting results. Only seven people of 213 admitted to Tudor tattoos. :)

Updated to add: Just in case anyone was interested in how the winners were chosen... I pasted the email addresses into an Excel spreadsheet, so there was a number for each address. Then I went to Random.org and had it generate 5 numbers in the range that the addresses covered (1 to 185, I think). And that's how they were chosen. If it had been less than 100, I might have gone the "slips of paper" route, but I really didn't feel like cutting nearly 200 email address out!

"The Tudors" give-away and survey extended

I'm going to leave the survey open for another two weeks because I'm going to be very, very busy in the next week or so, so I don't think I'll get a chance to deal with all of that this weekend.

BTW, I was originally hoping to get the October podcast out this weekend (Oct 13-14), but it looks like next weekend is more realistic. I'm slowly moving them up towards the beginning of the month, but I probably won't start getting them out in the first week of the month until the start of the new year.

On travel for a few days

I just wanted to let folks know that I'm going to be traveling for work through Sunday, so I won't be answering emails or making blog posts in that time period. I'll have internet access, but I don't think I'll have a lot of time to deal with non-work stuff!

Sorry for the interruption

My apologies to anyone who came looking for the website over the past 18 or so hours. I goofed on my domain renewal (I thought it was renewed through 2008, but obviously not!), but all should be sorted out now. And it's renewed through 2010, so if this little episode is repeated, at least it won't be for another three years.

The funny (and sad) thing is that I was first clued on to the fact that something was wrong when I checked my email this morning and I only had 5 spam emails in my tudorhistory folder (I usually get between 30 and 50 overnight).

Responding to a few comments

Hey folks! I just wanted to respond to a couple of comments that I saw in the iTunes reviews....

First off, if you want to get episodes that aren't showing on iTunes screen for the podcast, they can all still be downloaded off the blog (you'll have to go to the archives section). I changed the settings so that a year's worth of posts will show on the front page, so hopefully the feed will update and the intro ep. and first ep. will show up on the iTunes page. I don't think this will change what is automatically downloaded to your individual podcatcher, but I could be wrong...

The other thing I'd like to address is the infrequency of the podcast. I know that some of you would like for the podcast to come out more often, and believe me, I wish I could get more than one out a month. At this point, I just can't manage that. I my wildest dreams I'd like to be able to get a "this week in Tudor history" out each week. That might be something to shoot for in the new year. We'll just have to see. Maybe if I can get my desk cleaned off and something set up in my home office (as opposed to my work office, where I usually record) I'll be able to get something out more often. This is all still just an experiment, so I'm sure things will continue to change over the next few months!

iTunes not showing episodes

Well, I'm not sure what's going on, but the episodes and reviews for the podcast aren't showing up in iTunes right now. I'll investigate and see if something is goofed up. I haven't changed anything and the feed seems to be okay, so it might be something on Apple's end.

The next new episode should be ready next week, so hopefully I'll get it fixed before then!

UPDATE: Seems to be working now. I have no idea what happened to break it or to fix it, but the eps are listed and reviews are back. Strange!
