Image:NPG<\/i><\/p>\n<p>The big news in the Tudor\/Elizabethan art realm this past week was the announcement that the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Portrait Gallery<\/a> has purchased a portrait of Elizabeth I from a house sale and that it would be included in the gallery&#8217;s forthcoming exhibition <i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/whatson\/exhibitions\/2013\/elizabeth-i-her-people.php\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth I &#038; Her People<\/a><\/i> (opening in October).<\/p>\n<p>Here are a few of the articles about the painting from last week:<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/entertainment-arts-22436082\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth I portrait found in house clearance sale<\/a> &#8211; BBC article with a video discussing the painting with the NPG&#8217;s Tarnya Cooper<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.telegraph.co.uk\/culture\/art\/art-news\/10043946\/Elizabeth-I-portrait-to-be-displayed-after-being-hidden-for-centuries.html\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabeth I portrait to be displayed after being hidden for centuries<\/a> &#8211; From The Telegraph<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.guardian.co.uk\/artanddesign\/2013\/may\/08\/national-portrait-gallery-elizabeth-i\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Portrait Gallery buys postcard-sized portrait of Elizabeth I<\/a> &#8211; From The Guardian<\/p>\n<p>Several stories related to Mary Queen of Scots came along last week:<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scotsman.com\/news\/arts\/mary-queen-of-scots-death-warrant-to-go-on-show-1-2926603\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mary, Queen of Scots death warrant to go on show<\/a> &#8211; It will be part of an exhibition that I&#8217;ll post more about in an upcoming round-up<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-scotland-22472478\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mary, Queen of Scots statue call<\/a> &#8211; If Mary gets a statue, I hope this prompts Pembroke to grant the request for one for Henry VII.<\/p>\n<p>* <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tvwise.co.uk\/2013\/05\/the-cw-picks-up-the-100-the-tomorrow-people-to-series\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The CW Picks Up <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Elizabeth and the Three Goddesses.
