I really wish I could see the miniatures exhibit at the NPG. I just might have to console myself with the catalogue!<\/p>\n<p><b>Exhibitions<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/whatson\/elizabethan-treasures\/exhibition\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tudorhistory.org\/blogpics\/NPGminiatures.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/whatson\/elizabethan-treasures\/exhibition\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Elizabethan Treasures &#8211; Miniatures by Hilliard &#038; Oliver<\/a> opened at the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npg.org.uk\/\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">National Portrait Gallery London<\/a> on February 21, 2019 and runs through May 19, 2019.<\/p>\n<p>From the website: <\/p>\n<p><i><\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">Described as \u2018a thing apart from all other painting or drawing\u2019, the portrait miniatures of the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods are some of the greatest works of art to be produced in the British Isles. Hilliard and Oliver were compared by their contemporaries to Michelangelo and Raphael, and gained international fame and admiration.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-left: 40px\">This will be the first major UK exhibition of these miniatures for a generation. It will explore what these intimate images reveal about identity, society and visual culture in the late sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries.<\/p>\n<p><\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180922114325\/https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/hardwick\/features\/we-are-bess\" target\"new\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/tudorhistory.org\/blogpics\/WeAreBess.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20180922114325\/https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/hardwick\/features\/we-are-bess\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8220;We are Bess&#8221;<\/a> re-opened at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationaltrust.org.uk\/visit\/peak-district-derbyshire\/hardwick\" target=\"new\" rel=\"noopener\">Hardwick Hall<\/a> on February 16 and runs to June 2 this year.
